Overview

Internal Medicine is the branch of medicine dedicated to the diagnosis and non-surgical treatment of adult illnesses. An internal medicine physician looks at the whole patient, rather than one organ or symptom at a time.

This approach is particularly helpful for patients with more than one long-term condition, those taking several medicines, and those whose symptoms do not yet have a clear cause.

Dr Prashant J. Thakkar is a Consultant Physician with special interests in diabetes and hypertension management, infectious diseases and critical care.

Areas of care

Internal Medicine at Sajivan Hospital includes:

  • Infectious diseases

Evaluation and treatment of infections such as prolonged fever, typhoid, dengue, malaria and respiratory or urinary infections.

  • Hypertension

Diagnosis and long-term control of high blood pressure, including difficult-to-control BP.

  • Diabetes & metabolic disorders

Integrated care for diabetes, cholesterol and thyroid conditions.

  • Multiple long-term conditions

Coordinated management when several conditions and medicines need to be balanced.

  • Unexplained symptoms

Systematic evaluation of symptoms such as weight loss, prolonged fatigue or recurrent fever.

  • Post-hospital follow-up

Review and continuing care after a hospital admission, including after ICU care.

When to consult a physician

  • Fever lasting longer than a week
  • Several health conditions or many medicines
  • Symptoms without a clear diagnosis
  • BP or sugar that remains high despite treatment
  • Recurrent infections
  • Recently been discharged from hospital

Seek emergency care immediately if you have chest pain, severe breathlessness, confusion, fainting or a high fever with drowsiness. Call +91 98985 56496 or dial 108.
